Manitoba releases the final plan for the third phase restoring services

On Wednesday June 17, 2020, Premier Brian Pallister announced the final plan for the third phase of reopening services in Manitoba.

“Thanks to the efforts of all Manitobans and based on advice from our public health officials, I’m pleased to announce that we are in a position to move forward once again in our phased approach of restarting our economy,” said Pallister. “Thousands of Manitobans provided their input and feedback on numerous proposed measures for Phase Three of Restoring Safe Services, and their support for our plan to further ease public health restrictions is reflected in the next steps of our economic recovery roadmap.”

The province outlined a draft proposal for phase 3 reopening last week and invited input from all Manitobans.

More than 25,000 people weighed in and a few notable changes were made in the final version of the plan

As of Sunday, June 21, 2020, the third phase reopening plan comes into effect with a number of restrictions that have been lifted or modified.

Travel from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut and northwestern Ontario (west of Terrace Bay) will be permitted without the need to self-isolate for 14 days. Travellers from other areas will still be required to self-isolate.

Restaurants and bars will be allowed to open at full capacity as long as there is a physical barrier between tables or two metres of separation between tables.

The maximum capacity of 300 people at any site has been changed to a maximum 30 per cent of usual capacity.

“Current indicators show the risk of community transmission of the virus in Manitoba is low at this time, so we are now able to further ease restrictions while ensuring Manitobans still practice the fundamentals that got us to this stage,” said Dr. Brent Roussin, Manitoba’s chief provincial public health officer. “As businesses and communities expand the services they offer, all Manitobans must continue to practise physical distancing with others outside their households, wash their hands often and stay home when they are sick to further reduce the risk of spreading the virus.”
