Manitoba pulls $215 million out of rainy day fund

Finance Minister Scott Fielding announced on Tuesday March 30, 2021, that the provincial government has pulled $215 million out of the rainy day fund to pay for the Bridge Grant Program.

The minister said that by using money from the rainy day fund the province would save about $45 million in interest costs over the nest 10 years.

With this withdrawal the fund now sits at $585 million.

Fielding note that the fund would be replenished over time as the impacts of the pandemic lessen.
