Manitoba Premier Announces Cabinet Changes

The Manitoba government has announced changes to its cabinet, Premier Wab Kinew revealed today.

Tracy Schmidt, the member of the legislative assembly for Rossmere, has been appointed as the new minister of education and early childhood learning. Schmidt had been acting in this role since October, following the late minister Nello Altomare’s decision to step back due to health reasons. Altomare passed away last week.

“I am honoured to take up the torch of minister of education and early childhood learning and continue on the incredible work of my late colleague and friend Nello Altomare,” said Schmidt. “In this role, I will keep working to give every child in Manitoba a path to success – an inspiring education, a fulfilling career, and a good life.”

Additionally, Mike Moyes, the member of the legislative assembly for Riel, has joined the cabinet as the minister of environment and climate change. Moyes emphasized his dedication to addressing environmental issues and climate change, which he described as one of the greatest challenges facing the province.

Premier Kinew noted that both ministers were sworn into their new roles during a private ceremony.
