On Monday June 26, 2017 the Manitoba Metis Federation and the federal Canadian Government announced a mobile outreach office which will provide the Metis Nation in Manitoba with improved access to services like citizenship applications and training and education programs.
The Honourable Carolyn Bennett, Minister of Indigenous and Northern Affairs and David Chartrand, President of the MMF made the announcement.
The federal government invested more than half a million dollars into the project to help increase the availability of services for remote communities.

The MMF Mobile Outreach Office makes a huge impact, bringing information and services directly to the Métis Nation – no matter where they’re located in the province. It’s through partnerships like this that we are able to advance reconciliation, strengthen our government-to-government relationship, and deliver real and tangible results for people on the ground.” said Bennett
David Chartrand said “The MMF is a grassroots government, built from the ground up. This mobile office will bring Citizenship and other services directly to our Métis Citizens at home in their villages and towns throughout Manitoba.”
According to census data 48% of Metis people in Manitoba live outside Winnipeg.
The mobile office will begin its service tour at the annual gathering of the Métis Nation at Back to Batoche Days from July 20 – 23. It will then travel to Portage la Prairie on July 24 to start a circuit of the Southwest region to villages and towns such as Minnedosa, Rossburn, St. Lazare, Elk Horn and Oak Lake. The complete tour, including location and dates for stops, will be posted on the MMF website.
