The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 2034 announced on Wednesday evening that effective midnight their members would be on strike.
IBEW represents approximately 2,300 employees at the Crown corporation who have been without a contract fo 26 months.
Although the union claims Hydro did not table a final offer by 5:00 pm Wednesday the company counters that they had provided a final offer Wednesday evening.
“It’s hoped the IBEW leadership takes the offer to its membership for a vote,” said Manitoba Hydro president and CEO Jay Grewal.
IBEW members were involved in rotating work stoppages last week after a breakdown in negotiations between the union and the company.
