Manitoba Government Invites Residents to Enjoy Free Fishing and Park Visits

The Manitoba government is opening its provincial parks for free visits and fishing from June 7 through June 9, in an effort to encourage residents to explore the natural beauty of the province.

During this weekend, Manitobans can fish without an angling licence throughout the province, with the exception of national parks where a federal licence is still required. However, all other angling regulations, including possession limits and size restrictions, will continue to apply as outlined in the 2024 Manitoba Anglers’ Guide.

In addition to the free fishing, vehicle permits will not be required to visit provincial parks during this period. Regular camping fees will still apply at provincial campgrounds.

A special highlight of the weekend will be the guided tours offered by park interpreters at Whiteshell Provincial Park. Visitors will have the opportunity to tour the Whiteshell Fish Hatchery, learn about the variety of species raised by provincial fisheries staff, and gain an in-depth understanding of the evolution of fish stocking over the years. They will also have the chance to view hundreds of thousands of trout in outdoor tanks.

These tours will be available this weekend and throughout the summer season. For more information on tour schedules and provincial parks, visit the Manitoba Parks website.

This initiative by the Manitoba government provides a unique opportunity for residents to enjoy the province’s natural resources and learn more about its rich aquatic life. It’s a call to all Manitobans to come out, enjoy the outdoors, and maybe even catch their first fish.
