The Manitoba government has announced a permanent 10 per cent reduction in the provincial fuel tax. Premier Wab Kinew made the announcement today, highlighting the government’s commitment to keeping its promises.
“Our government keeps our word. We said we’d cut the fuel tax and we did,” said Kinew. “We said it would last 12 months and it did. Now we’re going further by bringing in a permanent cut to the fuel tax to make it one of the lowest in Canada.”
The new 12.5 cent per litre fuel tax rate will be applied to both gasoline and diesel across the province starting January 1, 2025. This reduction represents a 10 per cent decrease from the previous rate.
Premier Kinew also noted that the fuel tax holiday has played a crucial role in slowing inflation in Manitoba, contributing to the province having the lowest gas prices in Canada throughout 2024.
This permanent tax cut is expected to provide ongoing relief to Manitoba residents and businesses, reinforcing the government’s commitment to economic stability and affordability.
