Premier Wab Kinew announced today that the Manitoba government will provide $300,000 in funding to Carman Wellness Connections, a non-profit organization that has been instrumental in helping the community heal after the tragic murder of five Manitobans earlier this year.
“Earlier this year the people of Carman experienced an unspeakable tragedy, but in that darkness Manitobans helped each other,” said Premier Kinew. “Our government is proud to support the important work done by the front-line staff of Carman Wellness Connections.”
Carman Wellness Connections provides mental health services and helps community members navigate mental health and wellness resources. The organization, staffed by volunteers, works within the community to find solutions that minimize the impact of limited income and generate connections and opportunities that contribute to the creation of a community where everyone can flourish.
Karen Tjaden, a board member of Carman Wellness Connections, expressed profound gratitude for the provincial support. “This significant contribution provides our non-profit charitable organization with the stability and confidence we need to continue our vital work. With this funding, we can enhance our programs, expand our reach and make a lasting difference in the community.”
In addition to the funding for Carman Wellness Connections, Premier Kinew also announced an additional $20,000 in funding to help the community build a memorial in honour of the victims to remember their lives and stand united against violence.
Mayor Brent Owen of the Town of Carman thanked the community and all Manitobans for their incredible support during this difficult time. “We are grateful for the added financial support towards Carman Wellness Connections. On behalf of the Town of Carman, we would also like to thank Premier Wab Kinew and his government for the $20,000 grant towards a memorial to be built in Carman. This investment will provide resources and health support to our community members for years to come.”
