Manitoba funding programs to combat child sexual exploitation

$900,000 has been promised by the Manitoba government in the battle to fight child sexual exploitation.

“The safety and security of children is a priority for our government, and we are committed to enhancing supports to ensure the best possible outcomes for vulnerable youth, including those at risk of sexual exploitation,” said Families Minister Rochelle Squires

Up to $200,000 will be spent to develop a provincial training and awareness campaign for hotel staff to help them prevent and respond to sexual exploitation and human trafficking. Part of the money will also go towards public education and awareness through the development of resources to inform Manitobans about their duty to report.

Toba Centre for Children and Youth will receive a total of $424,000 in new annual funding to support the development of a new model of community-based supports for abused children.

Forensic Practice, the Whole Truth and Technology for Learning Group will receive a total of more than $200,000 for two-year contracts to provide abuse investigation training and online standards training.
