Manitoba First Nations Police officer facing charges

An officer with the Manitoba First Nations Police Service has been charged with Assault, Mischief and Breach of an Undertaking following an investigation by the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU).

According to the police watchdog agency they began an investigation on November 5, 2020, after learning of an alleged assault that happened the day before in Portage la Prairie.

The officer was off-duty at the time the incident.

Upon conclusion of the investigation, IIU Civilian Director Zane Tessler determined that there are reasonable grounds to believe a criminal offence occurred.

Constable Jason Conrad Bushie was charged on January 13, 2021, then released on an undertaking. He is scheduled to appear in a Portage la Prairie provincial court on February 9, 2021.
