Manitoba First Nations Police Service has arrested and charged a 45-year-old man from Rossburn with Personation of a Peace officer.
Investigators say that on May 8, 2021, the accused allegedly identified himself as a police officer at a security check stop on Waywayseecappo First Nation. The check stop was in place to limit access to the First Nation due to COVID-19 restrictions.
The male returned to the check point a short time later and asked the female security officer for her I.D. He told the employee that he wanted to detain her for a search then drove away saying he was “just kidding”.
Officers went to a home in Rossburn where the suspect was arrested. Police seized a retired 2014 police interceptor. The vehicle had bars on the rear windows and officers also located a Red and Blue flashing emergency light inside.
After charges were laid the accused was released on an Undertaking with conditions. He is scheduled to appear in court.
