Manitoba extends the state of emergency

The province-wide state of emergency has once again been extended effective Monday, January 4, 2021, at 4:00 pm

In Manitoba a state of emergency gives the government a number of special powers in order to deal with emergencies like the pandemic. Under legislation the state of emergency is only in force for 30 day unless it is extended.

“As we start the new year, we will continue to adapt to the needs of our province in response to the pandemic. Our emergency management team has been a lead player from the onset and will continue supporting measures to flatten the curve and reduce the spread of COVID-19,” said Infrastructure Minister Ron Schuler.

Since March there have been extensions every month and it is reasonable to expect officials will continue to extend the state of emergency until the risk of COVID-19 has ended.
