Measures that were put in place early on during the COVID-19 pandemic have been extended according to Manitoba’s Residential Tenancies Branch until September 30, 2020.
Rent increases continue to be frozen however landlords can continue to give notice to tenants of their intention to increase rent after September 30th.
Although tenants are expected to continue to pay rent tenants cannot be charged late fees for failure to pay rent on time. Tenants cannot be evicted for not paying rent.
Landlords are can only evict tenants over urgent health and safety reasons.
These provisions came into force on March 24, 2020.
