Manitoba expands vaccine eligibility to those 12 and over

Manitoba has expanded the eligibility requirements to receive the Pfizer vaccine to youth and teens aged 12 to 17.

“Young people have seen the serious effects that COVID-19 has had on their lives, their friendships, families and communities,” said Health and Seniors Care Minister Heather Stefanson. “They have shown resiliency, kindness and patience throughout the pandemic, and now it is their turn to be part of the COVID-19 response and help protect themselves, their friends and their families.

Appointments for young people can be booked online at https://protectmb.ca or by calling 1-844-626-8222.

Health Canada approved the use of the Pfizer vaccine for children aged 12 to 15 on May 5. It had been approved for those over 16 on December 9, 2020.

With this announcement Manitoba becomes one of the first jurisdictions in Canada to provide the vaccine to people 12 and older.
