Manitoba commits $25 million to community projects

Manitoba is committing $25 million in funding for the Building Sustainable Communities program.

The program funds up to 50 per cent of eligible project costs to a maximum of $75,000. It can be used to help fund planning activities, organizational capacity, building projects, community and regional initiatives, and capital infrastructure to extend, improve or enhance existing public-use facilities and spaces. Projects receiving grants are required to have a minimum 10 per cent of non-government cash as part of the funding structure except for planning projects.

Large-scale capital projects can receive up to $300,000 or 50 per cent of eligible project costs.

“From new playgrounds to swimming pools and community club upgrades, this investment will help ensure our local communities recover and thrive as we emerge from the pandemic together,” said Premier Heather Stefanson.

For the current 2022-23 intake the fund has had more than 600 applications for various types of projects.

“The BSC program has seen tremendous success since its inception and we’re pleased to be able to provide additional support to communities across the province,” said Municipal Relations Minister Eileen Clarke. “Many communities in Manitoba will be able to use this funding to help recover from the pandemic and the funding they receive will help bring more economic activity to the area.”
