Manitoba Boosts EV Infrastructure with 51 New Charging Stations

he Manitoba government is injecting $500,000 into expanding the province’s electric vehicle (EV) charging network, with the announcement today of funding for 51 new charging stations across Manitoba. Environment and Climate Change Minister Mike Moyes unveiled the initiative, highlighting the government’s commitment to fighting climate change and fostering the adoption of greener transportation.

“Our government is committed to taking real action to fight climate change and the transition to electric vehicles will help drive down emissions,” stated Minister Moyes. “As more Manitobans look to make the switch to electric vehicles, there is a growing need to ensure reliable charging infrastructure in strategic locations.”

The $500,000 investment, channeled through the Climate Action Fund, will facilitate the installation of 39 EV charging stations in Brandon and Morden, as well as extending access to rural, northern, and Indigenous communities throughout the province. This strategic distribution aims to address charging deserts and encourage EV adoption beyond urban centers.

Furthermore, the funding will support the installation of 12 charging stations at three multi-unit residential developments. This move recognizes the growing number of apartment and condominium dwellers and aims to make EV ownership more practical for these residents.

Minister Moyes emphasized that these projects are crucial for supporting the expansion of Manitoba’s EV charging network and fostering collaborative planning for regional green transportation initiatives. The increased availability of charging infrastructure is expected to alleviate range anxiety for current and prospective EV owners, further driving the shift towards electric mobility in Manitoba.
