Manitoba ‘Back to Work’ wage subsidy program expanded

Premier Brian Pallister announced on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 the the province is expanding its ‘Back to Work’ wage subsidy program.

The expanded program will reimburse businesses, charities and not for profits, $5,000 per new worker to a maximum of $50,000.

The province says that employers who have received financial support from the various other provincial and federal programs are all eligible to receive the back to work program funding.

The expanded program will reimburse half of all wages for those who are newly hired to October 31, 2020.

“Since the beginning of this pandemic, we knew we had to create opportunities for young Manitobans and we’ve created them,” said Pallister. “We have supported the creation of 8,200 additional positions for young people and now we lead the country, but there is still work to do. Today, I am proud to announce the expansion of our Back to Work wage subsidy program to provide more opportunities for businesses to offer the services Manitobans depend and rely on.” 

In the past month more than 300 businesses have applied for funding to support about 1,000 positions with a value of about $5 million.
