Early morning fire destroys one home and significantly damages two others

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to a home in the 900 block of Manitoba Avenue after receiving a report of a working fire early Friday morning, January 4, 2019.

By the time crews arrived the fire had spread to two adjacent residences, one of which was under construction. WFPS says that two of the homes were occupied but the residents were able to get out before firefighters arrived on scene. Two other homes nearby were evacuated as a precaution while crews battled the blaze.

Firefighters used both offensive and defensive attacks on the flames and were able to get the fires under control just after 3:30 am.

The home that was under construction collapsed because of the fire and the other two suffered “very significant damage” due to the blaze. The roofs on both buildings collapsed due to fire in the attics.

The fire is under investigation.
