RCMP have intensified their manhunt for two murder suspects in the Northern Manitoba area around Gilliam.
On Thursday, July 25, 2019, RCMP updated media on the search for Kam McLeod and Bryer Schmegelsky.
Police confirmed that the pair were spotted in the Gilliam area prior to the discovery of their burnt out vehicle on Monday.
According to Cpl. Julie Courchaine from the RCMP there has been no reported vehicles stolen that can be attributed to the suspects and investigators believe both suspects are still in the area.
Police have increased the number of officers in the area and have brought in some specialized equipment such as an armoured vehicle and Air Services assets. The RCMP Emergency Response Team and the Crisis Negotiation Team have also deployed to Gilliam.
Courchaine said that in the last 48 hours police have received more than 80 tips as officers continue to conduct “detailed and thorough searches of potential areas of interest.”
RCMP also are continuing to operate a check-stop at the intersection of PR 280 and PR 290 just outside Gilliam.
