On Wednesday News 4 told you about a proposal that was aimed at lobbying the provincial government to mandate vaccinations for school-aged children.
Today the Manitoba School Boards Association voted down the proposal by a large majority.
The motion put forward by the Brandon School Division wanted the board to pressure the province to mandate vaccinations for nine illnesses including diphtheria, tetanus, polio, measles, mumps, rubella, meningitis, whooping cough and chicken pox.
The motion did allow for exemptions for those with allergies or other medical conditions that would prevent them from taking some or all of the vaccines
In Manitoba vaccination is voluntary but the most recent statistics show that six out of 10 children aged seven have received all the vaccine doses required.
