Mandatory training for truck drivers

Manitoba announced on Tuesday March 26, 2019 that effective September 1st commercial truck drivers will be required to undergo 121.5 hours of training.

“Commercial truck drivers play an important role in moving our economy forward, and we are focused on ensuring they have the necessary skills and qualifications to do their job in a way that ensures everyone is safe on the road,” said Infrastructure Minister Ron Schuler.

Currently in Manitoba you can get a Class 1 license by writing a knowledge based test then taking a road test. Training is not required before obtaining a licence.

The new minimum training requirement will bring Manitoba into line with other provinces like Alberta and Saskatchewan that require a minimum number of training hours.
