Man wanted in Russell home invasion turned himself over to police

32-year-old Christopher Leonard Benn, who was wanted in connection to a home invasion and assault has turned himself over to police on December 26, 2019.

Benn has been formally charged with Aggravated Assault, Robbery & Breaking and Entering for his alleged involvement.

Police say that around 1:30 am on December 23, 2019, three men forced their way into an apartment in Russell and violently assaulted a 32-year-old female while she slept. She was transported to a Winnipeg hospital. Russell is about 350 kilometres west of Winnipeg.

Police had previously arrested Elroy Lee Benn and Harley Hunter Mecas in connection to the assault. They are also facing charges of Aggravated Assault, Robbery & Breaking and Entering for their alleged involvement.

Police issued a public appeal on December 24, 2019, for help in locating the third suspect.
