Man wanted for shoplifting stabs himself in the face during arrest

Brandon police have arrested a 20-year-old man in connection to a shoplifting incident at a 10th Street business on Saturday afternoon, August 20, 2022.

According to police the suspect was seen stealing items from the business and was confronted by a staff member. The suspect then pulled out a large knife and threatened the employee before fleeing on his bicycle.

Officers spotted the suspect a few hours later in the 2500 block of Victoria Avenue and as they attempted to detain the male he fled on foot, pulling out a knife as officers pursued him. A second BPS officer ordered the man to drop the weapon but the suspect then took an aggressive stance and stabbed himself in the cheek. Police once again ordered the male to drop the knife but he then stabbed his other cheek. An officer used his taser which allowed officers to take him into custody.

The suspect was taken to hospital where he was treated and released back into police custody.

The accused was charged for his alleged involvement with Robbery, Possession of a Weapon and Resisting Arrest.
