An off-duty Winnipeg Police Service officer arrested the 43-year-old male suspect wanted in connection to a serious assault on a woman in her 70s on a Winnipeg Transit bus.
The officer noticed the suspect in the 1800 block of Portage Avenue and called for backup. The suspect was quickly taken into custody.
Police released more information regarding the assault and say that the male had been sitting on the bus when the victim got on to the bus and sat near him. Soon afterwards the male allegedly stabbed the woman causing serious injuries. She was taken to hospital in critical condition.
The suspect remains in custody.
Police have not released his identity or the charges he will be facing.
