Man Stabbed in Attempted Robbery on Downtown Winnipeg Transit Bus

A 21-year-old man is recovering in stable condition after being stabbed during an attempted robbery on a Winnipeg Transit bus in the downtown core on Wednesday evening.

The Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) responded to a call at approximately 8:30 p.m. on April 2, 2025, reporting a stabbing on a bus in the area of Portage Avenue and Main Street.

Upon arrival, officers located the victim at the rear of the bus, suffering from an upper-body injury consistent with a stabbing. Officers immediately provided emergency medical aid, including applying a chest seal, before paramedics arrived.

The injured man was transported to the hospital in unstable condition. Police confirmed today that his condition has since been upgraded to stable.

Preliminary investigation by WPS has revealed that an undetermined number of suspects approached the victim while he was on the bus and attempted to rob him. A physical altercation broke out, during which the victim was stabbed. The suspects fled the bus before police arrived at the scene.

The Major Crimes Unit has now taken over the investigation and is actively working to identify the individuals involved.

Police are appealing to the public for any information that could assist in their investigation. Investigators can be contacted at 204-986-6219.

Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477) or online at winnipegcrimestoppers.org.
