The victim of an armed robbery is recovering in a Winnipeg hospital after he was stabbed late Saturday night, April 8, 2023.
According to Winnipeg Police Service investigators from the Major Crimes Unit the 40-year-old male victim was walking on Logan Avenue, west of McPhillips Street, when two male suspects approached him and demanded his property at knifepoint. One of the suspects stabbed the victim without provocation causing significant upper-body injuries. The victim was able to make it to safety and call for help while the two suspects fled on foot.
Police responded and found the victim suffering from severe injuries to his upper body. He was taken to hospital by paramedics in unstable condition but later upgraded to stable.
Officers in the area and Air-1 above located the one suspect walking near Logan Avenue and Winks Street shortly after midnight on April 9. When the suspect was ordered to stop he took off running but was quickly placed in custody after a short foot pursuit. A weapon was recovered by police nearby.
Investigators say that the suspect and victim were not known to each other. The second suspect has not been captured.
The 24-year-old male suspect has been charged for his alleged involvement with Robbery and two counts of Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order. He was detained in custody.
