Winnipeg police have laid charges against the man who was shot by police on July 24, 2017, after he was involved in an armed robbery and police pursuit that ended when his vehicle crashed on Archibald Street.
According to investigators Peter Wilfred Flett, 26 was shot by officers. He was taken to hospital and has spent the last couple of months recovering. Police say he has been released from hospital and is now in custody. Specific details about the shooting have not been released because Manitoba’s police watchdog agency, The Independent Investigation Unit are investigating the incident.

Police released information on Wednesday, September 20, 2017, that Flett was also involved in two other incidents prior to being shot.
On June 30, 2017, a man in his 40’s was assaulted in a home in the 700 block of Beach Avenue after several suspects forced their way in.
On July 16, 2017, a 26-year-old male and a 27-year-old male were assaulted in the 500 block of Springfield Road sustaining non-life-threatening injuries to the upper body.
Police arrested Flett’s alleged accomplice in the two assaults on July 22, 2017
Flett is now facing multiple offences for his alleged involvement in these crimes including:
- Flight from Peace Officer
- Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle
- Drive While Disqualified
- Robbery with Firearm X 2
- Possess Weapon for Dangerous Purpose X 2
- Carry Concealed Weapon / Prohibited Device X 2
- Use Firearm During Commission of Offence
- Careless Use of Firearm
- Point Firearm X 4
- Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
- Possession of Firearm knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Unauthorized Possession of Firearm in Motor Vehicle
- Possess Firearm / Weapon Contrary to Order X 3
- W/A – Robbery, Assault with Weapon
Flett was detained in custody.
