Winnipeg police announced that at approximately 8:15 am on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, an officer shot an adult male in the Point Douglas neighbourhood during the execution of a warrant. The male was taken to hospital in unstable condition but later upgraded to stable.
According to the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU), police had gone to a home on Barber Street and upon entering the home they located a man armed with a knife. An officer shot the male with a taser with little effort and the male ran out of the house while officers gave chase. The suspect was located nearby on Hallet Street. Officers ordered the man to drop the weapon, subsequently one of the officers shot the suspect.
Anytime a police officer discharges a weapon that injures a person it is considered a serious injury and the IIU is mandated to investigate.
