Man sedated after early morning disturbance at ambulance station

Winnipeg Police were called to Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Ambulance Station 31 on Fury Street early this morning, May 4, 2020, after a male began banging on the windows of the station.

The male was seen picking up a piece of wood and swinging it in a violent manner.

By the time officers arrived the man had left the area around the station. The suspect was located about two block away in the 600 block of Bannatyne Avenue.

As police approached the male he became extremely combative. The man began fighting and as officers attempted to subdue him with pepper spray and tasers they had no effect.

Police say that eight officers were required to forcibly bring the male to the ground where paramedics who were standing by were able to sedate him.

The 28-year-old male was taken to hospital in stable condition and is undergoing treatment.

During the incident, police say that two officers were injured requiring one of them to be taken to hospital for treatment.

No charges have been laid against the male suspect at this time say police.
