Man Rolls Vehicle After Fleeing From Police Traffic Stop

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is investigating after man sustained lower body injures after fleeing from police.

On June 10, 2023, Manitoba First Nations Police Service had stopped a vehicle in Long Plain First Nation to investigate a possible impaired driver. After the driver exited the vehicle the male passenger got into the drivers seat and drove away. Police located the vehicle after it had rolled in a ditch. The man who took the vehicle suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg.

Manitoba First Nations Police Service informed the IIU of the incident. The civilian director of the IIU determined that it was in the public interest to undertake an investigation.
