Man poses as police officer for the second time this year after being arrested in September

As News 4 previously told you a 59-year-old man was arrested after he had allegedly impersonated a police officer.

Winnipeg police began an investigation in March of 2017 after they learned a male suspect was posing as an RCMP officer on various social media sites and communicated with a number of police and scuba diver groups. He portrayed himself as a member of the RCMP dive team and would engage in discussions.

After a lengthy investigation, Thomas David Hanaway was arrested on September 13, 2017 and charged with Personating Peace Officer and three counts of Fail to Comply with Probation Order.

Police say that the day after his arrest he once again began impersonating active and retired members of the RCMP and continued to do so until he was arrested for the second time in 2017 on October 22, 2017.

Hanaway now faces two more charges of Personating Peace Officer as well as two more charges of Fail to Comply with Probation Order.

He was again detained in custody.
