Winnipeg Police have a 26-year-old man in custody after he threatened to stab them.
The situation started when officers saw the suspect rummaging around the rear of a St. Boniface business at about 9:00 pm Monday night, October 15, 2018.
When they attempted to talk to the man he threw a bag to the ground and took off on a bicycle.
Police followed the suspected to Queen Elizabeth Way and Stradbrook Avenue where he crashed the bicycle. He then confronted the officers and threatened to stab them as he pulled out a pair of metal sheers. During the confrontation, the man picked up a two and a half foot piece of rebar.
Officers were able to disarm the suspect but were both kicked as they tried to place the man into their cruiser.
Police say that they believe the suspect was high on methamphetamine.
Neither officer was injured.
The suspect is facing assault a peace officer, uttering threats and weapons charges.
He was detained in custody.
