Brooklyn Street standoff ends with one male in custody

Police were involved in a standoff with an armed man Wednesday morning, July 31, 2019, on Brooklyn Street in St. James after receiving a 911 call.

At the time of the incident police said they believed the man was the sole occupant of a home in the 300 block.

Area residents were evacuated or told to stay in the interior of their home or basement. People on the street and traffic were diverted out of the area for several hours as the standoff unfolded.

Winnipeg Police Public Information Officer Rob Caver said the call came into police around 10:30 am.

Members of the Tactical Support Team along with general patrol officers and K-9 units were on scene until the early afternoon

One man was taken into custody just after noon.

Police have not said what charges will be laid. No one was hurt during the incident.
