Man goes on rampage at Winnipeg Water Treatment Plant

A 39-year-old man is in custody and facing multiple charges after going on a rampage at the Winnipeg Water Treatment Plant in the RM of Springfield.

RCMP say that officers were called to the facility around 2:30 am on Sunday, September 3, 2023.

Police say that a man had entered the facility’s yard and climbed into an excavator and used it to damage several vehicles and the building.

When officers arrived they climbed onto the excavator and ordered the man to stop the machine but he refused. Officers odered the man to stop a second time and he then complied.

When being placed in custody the suspect resisted arrest and assaulted the officers.

Aaron Michael Yarema from Winnipeg was charged for his alleged involvement with Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Breaking and Entering, Resist Arrest (x2), Assault Police Officer, Mischief Over $5000 and Fail to Comply with a Release Order.

The investigation continues.
