Man facing weapons offences after running from police

Winnipeg police have arrested a 22-year-old male on a number of weapons charges as they were involved in an unrelated search for two armed suspects.

Police say as they were searching for the armed suspects near Stella Avenue an Andrews Street early Saturday morning, May 2, 2020, they noticed a possible suspect riding a bicycle in the area.

The suspect took off when he noticed officers and a foot pursuit began.

With the help of Air-1 and other patrol units, the male on the bike was arrested in the 500 block of Selkirk Avenue.

A search of the male uncovered two knives, a sawed-off .303 rifle and ammunition. The suspect was also wanted and violating several conditions of a release order.

Police confirmed that the male was not connected to the initial armed men call.

Percy Reynold Simpson was charged for his alleged involvement with Possess Weapon (x3), Possess Restricted / Prohibited Weapon and Fail Comply Conditions of Court Order (x5)

He was detained in custody.
