Man dead after crashing into tree in St. Lazare

A 58-year-old male is dead after the vehicle he was driving left the roadway and crashed into a tree, say RCMP.

The collision occurred in the town of St. Lazare around 8:40 pm Monday February 22, 2021. Police say the driver was entering the town on Highway 41 when the vehicle left the roadway. St. Lazare is about 320 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg.

The driver was taken to hospital with severe injuries where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators have determined that alcohol did not play a factor in the collision. The driver was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision.

RCMP continue to investigate.
