Canada says YES!
24 year old Seidu Mohammed has been granted permission to stay in Canada. On Wednesday the Refugee Board approved Mohammed’s application for asylum.
The young man entered Canada illegally last Christmas Eve. He and another man, Razak Iyal, took a bus to Grand Forks North Dakota then got a taxi to take them close to the Canadian border. The pair then hiked across farmers fields in bitterly cold temperatures as they attempted to reach a safe haven.
The windchill that night was -30c and both men suffered sever frostbite. In the case of Mohammed he lost all his fingers on both hands. Iyal was able to keep his thumbs.
Mohammed faces an uphill battle as he learns to cope with life without fingers but he says that he is so happy to be in Canada and he is looking forward to making Winnipeg his home.
