Man Charged with Second-Degree Murder in February Homicide

A 30-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a homicide that occurred in February in Winnipeg’s downtown area.

On the night of February 25, 2024, Winnipeg Police Service officers responded to a distress call near Maryland Street and Wellington Avenue. They found a critically injured male, who was immediately transported to the hospital. Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, the man was later pronounced dead.

The victim was identified as 26-year-old Kevin Delaney Flett, a member of the St. Theresa Point First Nation. The Homicide Unit took over the investigation and determined that Flett had been assaulted with a weapon, leading to his fatal injury.

After a thorough investigation, on June 7, 2024, Winnipeg Police Service officers arrested Tyron Custer Harper, 30. Harper has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with Flett’s death.

Harper is currently being held in custody.
