Man charged in Tootinaowaziibeng First Nation homicide investigation

 

 

Body was identified as a 44-year-old male

 

 

 

 

As News 4 previously told you human remains were found on Tootinaowaziibeng First Nation July 1, 2017.

Tootinaowaziibeng First Nation is approximately 384 kilometres north-west of Winnipeg.

RCMP Major and Serious Crime Unit and the Forensics Identification Services investigated after being called to the area around noon on Canada Day.

Police have identified the remains and say that they belong to a 44-year-old male from the community who had not been reported missing. The remains are those of an adult male, aged 44, from the community. The investigation has determined the male died on June 21, 2017. The victim had not been reported missing.

Investigators say the man died on June 21, 2017.

A 23-year-old male from Tootinaowaziibeeng First Nation, Rylan McKay, has been charged with Second Degree Murder and remains in custody. He will appear in court later today

 

RCMP say that the victim and suspect did know each other.

The name of the victim will not be released according to police.
