Man charged in historic sexual assault case

A 65-year-old Lundar man has been arrested and charged in relation to a series of sexual assaults against children in Winnipeg in the 1980s.

Police began an investigation after one of the victims, now and adult, came forward in December 2021. Members of the Winnipeg Police Service Child Abuse Unit found two additional people who had also been sexually assaulted. All three survivors were children at the time of the assaults.

On February 24, 2022, Joseph Floyd Delaney was taken into custody and charged for his alleged involvement with three counts of Sexual Assault, two counts of Sexual Interference, two counts of Invitation to Sexual Touching, Assault and Gross Indecency.

Delaney was released on bail with conditions as mandated by the Criminal Code of Canada.

Investigators say that Delaney was involved with a church group and was involved in theatre productions in the southwest area of Winnipeg when the sexual assaults occurred. Anyone who has information and wishes to speak with investigators is asked to call (204) 986-3296 or Crime Stoppers at (204) 786-8477.
