Man causing a disturbance on a city bus facing weapons charges

A 19-year-old male is facing charges after causing a disturbance on a Winnipeg Transit bus on Thursday night, January 5, 2023.

Police say that the male was smoking and holding a knife while on the bus causing the driver to stop the bus at Portage Avenue and Kennedy Street.

When officers arrived they found the male walking northbound on Kennedy Street. When officers caught up to the suspect he was uncooperative with them and a taser was used to take the make safely into custody. Officers seized a folding knife that had been concealed in the man’s sock and a hunting knife hidden in his waistband. Officers also seized a can of bear spray that was concealed in the suspect’s backpack.

Samuel Hapa was charged for his alleged involvement with three counts of Possession of a Weapon and six counts of Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order.

He was detained in custody.
