Man busted for threatening driver and stealing taxi

Winnipeg Police have a 27-year-old male in custody after he allegedly carjacked a taxi on Monday night, February 15, 2021.

Police say that around 9:30 pm a cabbie picked up a fare in the 100 block of Furby Street and was asked to drive to the area around Salter Street and Manitoba Avenue. According to the taxi driver the fair became aggressive and during the drive threatened to stab him.

Once at the destination the driver fled the vehicle in fear for his safety and was chased around the car by the suspect before the suspect stole the vehicle.

Police say that the vehicle was located by Air-1 in the lane in the 300 block of Boyd Avenue. The aerial observer watched as the suspect got out of the vehicle and went to a home in the 300 block of Redwood Avenue.

Officers went to the house and arrested the suspect. A search uncovered the camera from the taxi along with a fuse box that had been ripped out of the cab.

Charles Roger Knott has been charged for his alleged involvement with Robbery, Theft Under $5000, Mischief Under $5,000/Obstruct in Enjoyment, Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm and Drive without licence or with invalid licence

Knott was detained in custody.
