Man busted for drug trafficking after calling police about an assault

Winnipeg Police has busted a 39-year-old male on drug trafficking charges after he called them to report he was assaulted.

Around 8:00 am on Wednesday, January 2, 2019, the male called the police to say he had been assaulted at a hotel on Ellice Avenue and he did not know where the assailants had gone.

Officers responded and met the man in his hotel room. While there, police noticed what appeared to be cocaine throughout.

The man was arrested and searched which led to police finding a number of items including:

  • About 24 grams of meth worth $3,000
  • 20 fentanyl tablets worth $1,600
  • 51.5 grams of Cocaine worth $3,200
  • 70 tablets of Xanax worth $350
  • Drug-related packaging materials
  • $17,545 in Canadian Cash

Peter Alfred Melquist from Winnipeg has been charged for his alleged involvement with multiple drug trafficking offences as well as property crimes.

He was detained in custody.
