Man busted after trying to cross the border in a stolen Jeep

A 22-year-old man is facing a number of charges after he was arrested by Canadian Border Services Agency officers in Emmerson, Manitoba attempting to leave the country in a stolen vehicle.

In the afternoon of March 15, 2021, Brandon police responded to a Victoria Avenue car dealership after a male took a vehicle for a test drive before having authorization to do so. Police say that an employee from the dealership followed the male and was able to stop the man near 34th Street and Victoria Avenue.

Once stopped the man assaulted the employee and then stole the 2019 black Jeep Wrangler that the employee had been in.

Officers obtained an arrest warrant for the male suspect and notified other law enforcement agencies of the incident.

On Wednesday, March 17, 2021, Brandon police were contacted about the arrest at the border. CBSA officers turned the suspect over to RMCP who also seized the vehicle.

The suspect was charged for his alleged involvement with Theft of Motor Vehicle and Robbery with Violence. He was released from custody pending trial
