A 20-year-old male is in custody after allegedly attacking a teen in Portage la Prairie on Friday, May 12, 2023.
RCMP say that the incident happened around 11:45 pm on 6th Street NE and the accused ran towards the 15-year-old female, tackled her to the ground, assaulted her, and then stole her phone. The victim was able to get away but the suspect chased her, tackled her a second time, pointed a firearm at her and threatened her. The teen was able to get away again.
Officers patrolled the area and located the suspect on Yellowquill Trail. He was arrested and police seized a loaded makeshift firearm was seized.
Kaden West was charged for his alleged involvement with several firearm charges, two counts of Assault with Weapon, Forcible Confinement, Resist/Obstruct a Peace Officer and charges related to not complying with release orders and undertakings.
RCMP say that they have also charged West with Driving Without a Licence and Driving Carelessly for his alleged involvement in a collision while driving a stolen vehicle earlier that night.
