RCMP in Island lake are investigating an assault and carjacking in Garden Hill First Nation that happened early Saturday morning, October 2, 2021.

Police say a 37-year-old male was driving in the community when he was stopped by a group of people, pulled from his vehicle then assaulted. The five male and on female assailants then stole the victim’s vehicle and drove off.

The victim was still at the scene a short time later when the suspects returned and assaulted the victim a second time. An adult male who lived nearby tried to stop the assault but the suspects tuned on him and inflicted serious injures.

Both male victims were taken to the nursing station then flown to Winnipeg for treatment.

RCMP say that they have identified the suspects but have not been able to locate them and place them under arrest at this time.
