n the early hours of September 8, 2024, North District General Patrol officers conducted a traffic stop after observing a male cyclist operating his bicycle unsafely near Alexander Avenue and Arlington Street.
The incident occurred at approximately 1:42 a.m. when the cyclist nearly collided with the officers’ police cruiser.
Upon stopping the individual for a Highway Traffic Act infraction, officers discovered that the male had an active warrant for his arrest. The suspect was taken into custody without incident. During a subsequent search, officers found a loaded improvised firearm, commonly known as a “Zip gun,” along with a .22 calibre round of ammunition concealed on his person.
Further investigation revealed that the male had initially provided a false identity to avoid arrest. Once his true identity was confirmed, it was discovered that he had an outstanding warrant from the Brandon Police Service.
The 23-year-old male from Winnipeg now faces multiple charges, including:
- Possession of a Weapon
- Carry Concealed Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Identity Fraud – Intent to Avoid Arrest, Prosecution or Obstruct Justice
- Warrant (Fail to Attend Court)
- Provincial Offence Act Notice (HTA 75)
The accused remains in custody as the investigation continues.
