A 43-year-old male was taken into custody by Central District Foot Patrol officers after being spotted with a firearm in downtown Winnipeg. The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. in the 300 block of Kennedy Street.
Officers, who were engaging with hotel staff, noticed the man walking by with what appeared to be the end of a firearm protruding from his bag. Upon apprehension, a loaded .22 calibre rifle and ammunition were seized.
Further investigation revealed approximately $2,000 worth of individually wrapped quantities of crack cocaine and methamphetamine in his possession. Additionally, officers found $60 in cash, cell phones, and drug packaging materials.
The suspect is facing multiple charges, including:
- Careless Use of Firearm, Ammunition, Prohibited Weapon or Device
- Possession of a Weapon
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
He was released on an Undertaking as mandated by the Criminal Code.
