Winnipeg Police Service has arrested a man in connection to the first homicide of 2024.
Police were called to the 800 block of Furby Street around 7:30 am on January 4, 2024, for the report of a seriously injured man lying outside.
The victim was taken to hospital in critical condition but did not survive his injuries.
Police have identified the victim as 62-year-old Daniel Jawbone of Winnipeg.
Within 90 minutes of finding the victim officers arrested 59-year-old Derin Hanninen at an apartment suite in the same block. Hanninen was charged for his alleged involvement with Second Degree Murder. He was detained in custody.
Police say that the victim was assaulted during an altercation in the accused’s suite.
The homicide unit is continuing to investigate.
