Man arrested for sexual assaults dating back to the 1990s

Winnipeg Police Service Child Abuse Unit has arrested a 58-year-old man in connection with sexual abuse involving several children spanning two decades.

Police say that they began an investigation in June 2022, after a number of people came forward and reported similar accounts of sexual abuse and exploitation dating back to the 1990s.

The complainants were between 4 and 20 years old when they went to the accused’s home to be minded as children and as visitors when they got older.

Investigators say that during these occasions, the accused asked the victims to touch his body, slept naked with them and touched them in an unwanted sexual manner.

As the victims grew older, they were provided drugs and alcohol by the accused.

Leslie Edward Semchyshyn Has been charged with seven counts of Sexual Assault, five counts of Sexual Interference, Sexual Exploitation, two counts of Invitation to Sexual Touching, Administer Noxious Thing with Intent to Endanger Life or Cause Bodily Harm and LCA Supply liquor / controlled beverage to a person under 18 years

He was released on an Undertaking as mandated by the Criminal Code.
